I did not choose to paint this painting with a political viewpoint. But for the indigenous people’s pride and the importance of preserving and enriching their traditions and culture. The artwork focuses on the contemporary competitive powwow style and highlights several dancers in their Regalia.

Regalia is not a costume. A costume is something you wear when you dress up and pretend to be someone or something else — like for Halloween. But regalia represents the dancer’s personality and history, family, and culture as well.


When I was younger, I had the opportunity to wear a full regalia, and I have never forgotten the beauty and work that had gone into it.
